Tribal Radio Summit at ASU
The ASU campus is starting to develop a buzz as it prepares for students to return for the fall semester. The month of July was extremely busy as we helped co-host the first-ever Tribal Radio Summit held at the ASU Downtown campus. AIPI also attended planning meetings and a retreat for new initiatives that we will be announcing soon.

We're busily planning our fall programs and will be increasing our outreach at upcoming conferences in Indian Country such as the National Congress of American Indians (NCAI) National Convention & Marketplace, which will be hosted in Phoenix this October along with the 2016 International Conference of Indigenous Archives, Libraries and Museums held at the Gila River Indian Community's Sheraton Wild Horse Pass Resort & Spa. Look for us out there!

The Tribal Radio Summit was a successful inaugural event held at the ASU Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Communications on July 19-21. The event brought together radio station managers, producers, hosts and practitioners in Native radio from across the country. A number of hands-on training, workshops and dialogue sessions were held over the three days. The FCC Commissioner Mignon L. Clyburn attended the summit along with staff from the FCC's Office of Native Affairs and Policy. Clyburn presented the opening keynote and discussed the Tribal Priority radio program of the FCC. The event was co-hosted by the FCC, Native Public Media, the National Federation of Community Broadcasters, and the ASU American Indian Policy Institute

Tribal Economic Leadership Program Update

[caption align="right"][/caption]

In July, AIPI and Native American Finance Officers Association (NAFOA) staff held a program retreat in Tucson. To say it was a productive retreat would be an understatement. At the retreat, AIPI and NAFOA were able to map out the next three years of the Tribal Economic Leadership (TEL) Program. In addition to the biannual Tribal Financial Manager Certificate (TFMC) training, the TEL program will be adding an advanced TFMC training, additional entrepreneurship training, and the brand new Leader to Leader (L2L): Tribal Economic Governance Seminar in 2017 and 2018. Keep an eye out for more information on these exciting new offerings, but in the meantime, the Fall 2016 TFMC will open registration on August 15, 2016.
