Hachinchokmata! Ayoppa Afammi Himitta'! (Hello to everyone! Happy New Year) We thank you for reading our newsletter and our legislative policy updates. We look forward to continuing to provide this service. Shortly we'll release our annual report. This document will speak to AIPI's commitment to what ASU calls social embeddeness (see us on page 33). Our report will highlight our programs, projects, diversity, and community impact. This coming year looks to be a strong year; one of sustaining our existing programs and building relationships.

We are already in February! It's hard to believe.  During this past month, we've been a part of the AZ Indian Nations and Tribes Legislative Day, the Wiring the Rez Conference, and lectures here at ASU.

Thanks for taking the time to catch up with what's going on both in the nation and in the state with regard to Indian Country.  We try to bring you the most relevant and timely information about happenings.

Director's Message

Fall is a busy time on a university campus and it's no exception at Arizona State University.  The month of November is Native American Heritage Month and there are a plethora of activities happening on our five campuses.

This has been a busy fall for everyone here at AIPI and it’s just the beginning of November. We’ve participated in three national conferences and announced our new Tribal Economic Leadership program (learn more here). We have our Tribal Financial Manager Certification (TFMC) coming up in December and registration is now open for our spring class on Entrepreneurship for American Indian Sustainability.

Tribal Radio Summit at ASU

The ASU campus is starting to develop a buzz as it prepares for students to return for the fall semester. The month of July was extremely busy as we helped co-host the first-ever Tribal Radio Summit held at the ASU Downtown campus. AIPI also attended planning meetings and a retreat for new initiatives that we will be announcing soon.

This month AIPI has been busy with staff changes, travel to the National Congress of American Indians Mid-year Conference and new collaborations with outside organizations to bring the Tribal Radio Summit to ASU. We're excited as we plan and strategize new ways to improve AIPI and its programming and resources.

The May AIPI Newsletter includes a story about the Collaborative Agreement that ASU AIPI signed with NAFOA to form the Tribal Economic Leadership Program. Additionally, there a non-exhaustive summary of legislation regarding Native Americans put forth in the 114th Congress and a summary of some State of Arizona bills.
